Ninth component of complement. Complexed with C5b, 6, 7, 8 it forms a potent membranolytic complex (sometimes referred to as the membrane attack complex, MAC). membranes that have bound the complex have toroidal ‘pores’; a single pore may be enough to cause lysis.
